1. How can I buy access to the Skyrove network?

If you are at a hotspot simply connect to the Skyrove network and open a browser window. On the portal page that now comes up you can either buy credits with your credit card or you type in a voucher number (ask the hotspot owner for a voucher).

You can also create an account and buy credits directly on Skyrove’s website.

2. What packages can I buy?

The following packages are available for online purchases:
500 Credits for R40
1000 Credits for R80
2750 Credits for R200 (this package gives you 250 credits worth R20.00 for FREE)
7500 Credits for R500 (this package gives you 1250 credits worth R100.00 for FREE)

3. How much does Skyrove charge for Internet usage?

Skyrove charges for the data (measured in Megabytes) you download and upload, not for how much time you spend online. This means that someone who just wants to read emails will spend much less money than someone watching videos on YouTube! Skyrove hotspots charge different rates per Megabytes because the price is set by the owner of the hotspot. This price is shown on the portal page of each hotspot and on our Hotspot Map. Simply click on the hotspot that you want to use to find out what it charges.

4. How long do my credits last?

Here are some estimates of how many Megabytes people use on average:*
1 hour emailing/surfing 10 - 20 MB
1 hour phoning with Skype 20 - 30 MB
10 minutes Video Conferencing 20 - 30 MB
Downloading a song from iTunes 5 MB
* Note: Usage varies widely from person to person and program to program. Remember you always see exactly how much you are using on the Skyrove Status screen once you’re logged in.

5. Can I use my Skyrove account at other Skyrove hotspots?

Of course, you can use your Skyrove account and credits at any Skyrove hotspot worldwide. This is called roaming.

6. Where can I find more Skyrove hotspots?

All our hotspots are listed on Skyrove’s Hotspot Map!

7. What SMTP server should I use for my email program?

Your email application (e.g. Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird) might give you an error saying that ‘Relaying is not allowed’. When you log in at a Skyrove hotspot, your ISP will not be able to see that you are a legitimate customer and will therefore not allow you to use their email servers. (They do this to prevent spammers from using their servers) We recommend that you use your ISP’s online webmail service (most all ISPs provide this). In South Africa, you can also try the smtp.saix.net server.

Hotspot Owner FAQs

1. How much does it cost to setup a Skyrove hotspot?

You can either buy a hotspot router online from Skyrove for R895 (incl. Vat, excl. shipping) and install it yourself or contact Skyrove if you want a fully managed solution (from R1095 incl. VAT for hotspot and installation).

2. How much will Skyrove charge me monthly?

Skyrove generally does not charge you a monthly fee instead we pay out revenue share to you!

3. Can I give free Internet to my guests?

Yes, via vouchers that carry your branding. You can have full control over how much you want to give each customer and thus nobody can abuse the free service. We will charge a monthly fee for enabling this feature.

4. How can I see how much money I am making?

Skyrove has developed an extremely userfriendly and comprehensive online management platform. You will get a username and password to log on to your account where you can see revenues earned, view online users, purchase vouchers, etc.

5. When will Skyrove pay me?

Skyrove processes payouts at month-end. Please note that Skyrove will only make a payout if your account balance is more than $100 (R800). However you can purchase vouchers online using your positive account balance and get cash in your till right away. Please make sure you banking details are provided on your hotspot account. But don’t worry, if you forget to put them in we’ll contact you when you qualify for a payout. We will also automatically email you a statement for each payout.

6. Can I set up multiple hotspots?

Yes of course there is no limit how much money you can make with Skyrove but check if you qualify for our Authorized Skyrove Partner Program.
